Planning a Post-Launch Website Review Checklist for Consultancy Sites

A consultancy website is never really finished on launch day. The first few weeks after go-live are when real visitors, real devices and real network conditions expose the gaps that a staging environment hides. This routine gives you a calm, repeatable way to review forms, links, speed and analytics without panicking at every minor wobble.

Week One: Forms and Enquiries

Start with the element that pays the bills: your contact and enquiry forms. Submit a test message from every form on the site, including newsletter sign-ups and gated downloads. Confirm the notification email arrives, the autoresponder fires and the entry is stored in your CRM or inbox.

Then check the failure paths. Disable JavaScript, submit an empty required field and use an invalid email address. A good form should explain what went wrong rather than silently doing nothing. Keep a simple log so you can see whether issues repeat.

Links, Redirects and Navigation

Run a crawler across the site and fix every 404 before search engines index them. Pay attention to old URLs from the previous site: each one should redirect to the closest equivalent page, not the homepage by default. Broken links inside blog posts are especially easy to miss.

Click through the main navigation on mobile as well as desktop. Menus that work with a mouse can behave differently with a thumb, particularly dropdowns and sticky headers. Ask someone unfamiliar with the site to find a service page and a contact route without help.

A launch is a beginning, not a finish line; the first month of checks protects the work you have already done.

Speed and Core Web Vitals

Measure speed on a throttled mobile connection, not just office fibre. Large hero images, unused scripts and third-party chat widgets are the usual culprits on consultancy sites. Compress images, defer non-critical JavaScript and remove anything that does not earn its place.

Re-test after each change rather than making ten edits at once. Record the largest contentful paint and interaction timings so you can see genuine progress. If a plugin or embed is consistently slow, replace it or load it only when needed.

Analytics and Conversion Tracking

Verify that page views, form submissions and phone clicks are all recorded. Use the realtime report while you browse the site and confirm each action appears. Set up goals or events for the enquiries that matter most, such as a consultation request.

Check for duplicate tracking codes and internal traffic polluting your data. Exclude your office IP and any staging environment. A short weekly review of the numbers is enough at this stage.

A Simple Ongoing Routine

Turn these checks into a fortnightly habit rather than a one-off audit. The following order keeps it manageable:

  1. Test one form end to end.
  2. Run the link crawler.
  3. Check mobile speed scores.
  4. Confirm analytics events.
  5. Note fixes and repeat next cycle.

Finally, keep a short changelog of what you fixed and when. It helps you spot patterns, proves the value of the review and makes the next launch smoother. For consultancy sites, where trust is the product, this quiet maintenance is often the most persuasive marketing of all.
